Join Us in Advancing International Nuclear Research!

Location: Nyköping, Sweden, Company: Studsvik AB, Department: Fuel, Materials & Waste Technology, Positions: Several full-time roles

Studsvik is a global leader in nuclear fuel and materials research, delivering high‑quality experimental data, advanced analysis, and technical expertise to utilities, regulators, vendors, and research organisations worldwide. To further strengthen our large R&D programmes, we are looking to recruit several highly skilled senior professionals who can take a central role in leading and developing complex, multidisciplinary research projects.

This is a unique opportunity for experienced professionals who want to combine advanced technical work with project leadership, customer interaction, and real-world industrial impact — in an environment where integrity, safety, and trust are fundamental.

About the Role

As a Senior Project Manager / Senior Nuclear Specialist you will play a central role in leading and developing technically advanced projects and programmes involving international customers and partners.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead or support large, technically advanced R&D programmes involving international partners

  • Provide senior-level technical insight within areas such as nuclear fuel performance, materials degradation, corrosion, structural integrity, or related fields

  • Coordinate laboratory activities, engineering work, planning, reporting, and customer communication

  • Act as the main interface towards customers, including scope definition, budgeting, and follow-up

  • Balance technical excellence, safety requirements, timelines, and commercial objectives

  • Take full responsibility for high-quality, compliant, and ethically sound project execution

  • Represent Studsvik in technical meetings, programme boards, and international collaborations

  • Contribute to continuous improvement, method development, and knowledge sharing

The role combines project leadership, specialist competence, commercial responsibility, and a high degree of trust and accountability.

Your Technical Background

We are looking for senior professionals with specialist competence in one or more of the following areas: experience working with irradiated materials and hot cell testing, fuel behaviour analysis, advanced mechanical testing, or advanced materials characterisation. You have a strong understanding of nuclear materials and testing environments and are comfortable working at the intersection of laboratory activities, engineering analysis, safety requirements, and customer expectations.

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or similar

  • Extensive experience from nuclear R&D, advanced engineering projects, or equivalent industrial environments

  • Proven experience in leading or coordinating complex, multi-disciplinary projects

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with international customers and partners

Meritorious qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant field

  • Experience from international research programmes, joint industry projects, or utilities / vendors

  • Experience in technical reporting towards customers, regulators, or programme stakeholders

Who You Are

To succeed in this role, you are a self-driven, structured, and confident professional with very high personal and professional integrity. You combine strong technical credibility with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset and are comfortable balancing technical excellence, safety requirements, and commercial objectives.

You are a clear and constructive communicator, particularly in international settings, and enjoy working in a highly regulated, high-expectation environment. You are collaborative by nature, value teamwork, and take pride in sharing your knowledge while continuously learning from others. With strong judgement and a sense of responsibility, you are comfortable taking ownership and driving your work forward.

Why Studsvik?

At Studsvik, you will work in one of the world’s most advanced nuclear testing and research environments. You will combine deep technical expertise with project leadership and commercial responsibility, and be an important part of a privately owned, independent company with a long-term perspective and global reach. You will have the opportunity to influence international programmes that directly impact nuclear safety and performance, and to collaborate with highly skilled specialists across disciplines and countries.

This is not a typical research role – it is an opportunity to work at the intersection of science, industry, business, and trust.
